Welcome to our Scout community. Your privacy is incredibly important to us. Because our service relies on crowdsourced, real-time data to help drivers outsmart traffic, we need to collect and process location information. This Privacy Policy explains exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and the control you have over it.

1. Information We Collect

To keep our maps accurate and our community informed, we collect information in three ways:

A. Information You Provide Directly

  • Account Information: Automatic signup, we generate a unique ID and use that to sign you up.
  • User Reports & Contributions: Any data you actively report while driving, such as accidents, hazards, police presence, construction, etc.
  • Communications: Information you provide when you contact customer support or participate in surveys.

B. Information Collected Automatically (While Using the App)

  • Precise Location Data: With your permission, we collect your precise GPS coordinates, driving speed, and direction. This includes background location (if enabled) to provide seamless navigation and passive traffic updates even when your screen is off.
  • Device & Log Information: Your device type, operating system, app version, unique device identifiers, and crash logs.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our crowdsourced navigation system. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Aggregate anonymous driving speeds to detect traffic jams and automatically re-route other users.
  • Display your real-time road hazard reports to nearby drivers.
  • Monitor system stability, fix bugs, and protect against fraudulent or unsafe use of the app.

3. How Data is Shared Within the Community

By nature, our app is a social navigation tool. Here is how your data is visible to others:
Anonymity by Default: Your precise live location is never broadcasted to other drivers.

  • Public Reports: When you actively report a hazard or police trap, other drivers nearby will see the report on the map.

4. Third-Party Sharing and Advertising

  • Service Providers: We may share data with trusted vendors who host our servers, analyze app performance, or provide customer support.
  • Anonymized Partners: We may share aggregated, completely anonymized traffic and road data with city planners, transport authorities, or research institutions to help improve public infrastructure.
  • No Selling of Personal Data: We do not sell your personal, identifiable information or precise tracking history to third-party advertisers.

5. Your Choices and Controls

You have complete control over what you share:

  • Location Permissions: You can turn off location tracking at any time via your device settings. However, doing so will prevent the app from providing real-time updates.
  • Background Tracking: You can choose to allow location access "Only While Using the App" instead of "Always."
  • Account Deletion: You can delete your account at any time by uninstalling the app. Without your participation you will no longer be tracked.

6. Security and Data Retention

We implement robust encryption and security measures to protect your location history and personal account details. We only retain your identifiable location history for as long as necessary to provide navigation services and improve our routing algorithms, after which it is anonymized or destroyed.
